There is a mysterious new disease spreading across Asia and has already been detected in several countries in the Western Hemisphere. Appearing to have originated from Wuhan in China, coronavirus, a mysterious illness that has symptoms like pneumonia has been identified by Chinese authorities as a new strain of coronavirus. The virus has been known to cause respiratory tract illnesses ranging from the common cold to severe ailments like Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome or SARS.

To date, coronavirus has been detected in various Asian nations like South Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Japan. The United States has reported the virus has already arrived on its shores with the detection of some patients coming from China.

Official reports state that there are now around 10,000 patients with the deadly coronavirus in Wuhan, China, with 17 already dying from the virus. Chinese authorities have already implemented a lockdown in the city of Wuhan, preventing people from leaving or entering the place.

A Rapid Spread

With the seemingly rapid spread of coronavirus, the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England has taken preventive measures to protect Britons from the virus. Heathrow airport, for instance, has started isolating passengers coming from China from other fliers. Airport authorities have also started monitoring the temperature of passengers to determine whether they have a fever or not.

Public Health England has also issued a statement to warn the public about the potentially deadly situation. In its statement, authorities assured the public they are strictly monitoring the coronavirus situation in China and are prepared to implement precautionary and proportionate measures.

Authorities also reported that enhanced monitoring is already in place for all direct flights coming to the UK from Wuhan, China. This heightened monitoring system includes several measures that give advice to travelers who feel unwell.

Public Health England authorities also stated they have started checking passengers for coronavirus symptoms are have also handed out information to fliers about the symptoms. The information also contained advice on what to do in case passengers feel ill. Informational leaflets handed out by Public Health England are written in major languages, including Mandarin and Cantonese.
