  • Nik Lentz suffered a devastating eye injury after his UFC 257 lightweight bout against Movsar Evloev
  • Lentz decided to pull the stitches on his right eye and recorded the entire process
  • "The Carny" was prompt to retire because of the said eye injury

UFC star Nik Lentz pulled off an appalling stunt on social media shortly after announcing his retirement.

For almost 12 years of his professional fighting career, Lentz managed to maintain his reputation as one of the toughest lightweights in the UFC.

However, “The Carny” was prompt to finally hang the gloves after incurring injuries on his previously-injured eye once again during his bout against Movsar Evloev at UFC 257.

Apparently, Lentz might have wanted to please his fans one last time by shockingly removing the stitches on his right eye using a nipper.

The 36-year-old recorded the entire removal and uploaded it on his official Twitter account along with the caption, “Stitches removal Carnival style.”

Prior to the video, Lentz already opened up about how the said eye injury led him to call it a career.

According to the Minnesota native, he didn’t “rush” his retirement as the eye injury he sustained last year was already considered a “career-ender” and it drastically affected his vision.

“They say don’t make rash decisions after a loss, but this one is not rash or even quick for that matter,” Lentz wrote on Instagram. “The injury I suffered to my eyes last year was a career-ender. In total, I lost about 40% of my vision, but I wanted to see what one more hard-fought battle was like with the new eyes. It was clear to me last night that it’s impossible for me to compete at this level anymore. I just can’t lock on to a moving target like I should, and with 40% of my vision practically gone... It’s chaotic to (say) the least.”

"My life as a fighter in the best organization on the planet ends here,” he continued. “I am not sad or upset by it, the day comes for everyone. I stand with my head high, God as my redeemer and my children and wife as my treasure. Fighting gave those treasures and only ask for a little vision as payment. A trade I would make 100% of the time.”

Throughout his entire UFC stint, Lentz fought with some of the best fighters in the promotion, including Chad Mendes, Charles Oliveira and Gray Maynard.

Though Lentz is certain that he is stepping away from the sport at the moment, he also hinted at a possible MMA return concluding, “ Who knows what comes next for The Carny... but I can tell you what it’s not."
