Prince William will be on duty on Kate Middleton’s birthday.

The Duchess of Cambridge will be celebrating her 37th birthday on Wednesday. However, according to Hanna Fillingham, a journalist for Hello!, the Duke of Cambridge will be making his first royal engagement for the year on the said day.

Prince William will be visiting London’s Air Ambulance as the charity will also be celebrating its 30th anniversary. The charity is close to the father of three who previously worked as an air ambulance pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. During his visit, he will meet pilots, clinicians and paramedics and hear the experiences and challenges that they faced.

Back in September, Prince William also spoke candidly about his experience as a first responder. According to the royal, the job is not easy because they absorb much pain after witnessing a lot of others’ suffering.

"I took a lot home without realizing it," Prince William said. "You see [so] many sad things every day that you think life is like that."

Prince William added that they dealt with a lot of despair, sadness and injury. These things build up and one has to be careful and look for an opportunity to offload it. Otherwise, they’ll carry the burden.

Prince William will also learn more about the organization. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as well as Prince Harry, are advocates of mental health. The second-in-line to the throne will be offering mental health support for the staff. They will finish off the said engagement with a tea party.

Although Prince William will be out on Middleton’s special day, they will still have enough time to celebrate the duchess’s birthday. His engagement will only take a few hours and Prince William is expected to spend the rest of the day with his wife and three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Last year, Middleton spent her birthday privately. She will likely do the same this year. Usually, the royals’ take a day off on their birthday and opt to spend the day at home with their family.

In related news, Meghan Markle gave Middleton a thoughtful birthday present last year. The Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge have reportedly mended their issues over Christmas. Markle will likely give her sister-in-law another gift to celebrate Middleton’s birthday.
