Pyeongchang beat Munich, Germany. It beat out the beautiful French city of Annecy.

Pyeongchang will be the host of the 2018 Winter Olympics.

But where is Pyeongchang anyway?

Located in central South Korea, Pyeongchang is a country in the Gongwon province. The Taebaek Mountains run through the region, making it quite a good place to host downhill skiing and bobsled races.

The section of Pyeongchang comes after a failed 2010 bid to win the games, losing to Vancouver by three votes in the final ballot.

South Korea has never hosted the Winter Olympics and many put Pyeongchang ahead of Germany and France in the running. The 1988 Summer games were held in Seoul, South Korea.
