It probably would be pretty easy for even the most casual movie fan to guess who some of the world’s highest-paid actresses are. Forbes released its annual list of the wealthiest leading ladies and there are few surprises at the top of the list – Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, Melissa McCarthy, Fan Bingbing ... Well, OK, maybe there was one surprise. Number four on the list had many would-be cinephiles asking, Who is Fan Bingbing?

According to Forbes’ list, which ranks actresses based on their most recent annual income, Chinese actress Fan Bingbing earned $21 million! While the 33-year-old may not have a lot of name recognition in the U.S. – she is also a newcomer to the Forbes list –Fan is a superstar in her home country.

Fan is an acclaimed and award-winning actress who has appeared in numerous films, including “My Way,” “Stretch,” “Battle of the Warriors” and the upcoming “Lady of the Dynasty.” She made her Hollywood debut in 2014’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” in which she played the ill-fated Blink. Fan has long been a fashion icon in China, thanks to numerous red carpet appearances, as well as a force at the box office. She topped Forbes’ China Celebrity 100 list in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Fan beat out big names in the Forbes ranking, such as Jennifer Aniston, who ranked fifth, and Julia Roberts, who came in sixth. Sandra Bullock, who topped 2014’s list, fell to 15th this year. No other Asian actresses made the top 18, which was announced Thursday on “CBS This Morning.”

Will film fans in the U.S. now take notice of Fan Bingbing? Only time will tell, but $21 million is hard to ignore.
