Some customers of Walmart (WMT) are calling for a boycott of its stores after the retail giant issued a new vaccine policy at its Quebec locations.

Walmart is requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination for all customers 13 and older at its stores across Quebec in accordance with the mandate issued by the government.

Quebec Premier Francois Legault announced that retailers that have stores that are larger than 1,500 square meters (16,146 square feet) would need to require proof of vaccination from their customers, starting on Jan. 24.

In a reply to a customer’s Twitter post, Walmart Canada posted the following statement about its new store policy: “As directed by the Government of Quebec, we will implement the vaccine passport at our stores in Quebec. We ask for our customers' patience and understanding as we continue to ensure a safe and efficient customer experience. ”

Anti-vaxxers in Quebec criticized Walmart for the COVID vaccine requirement at its stores, calling out the retailer on Twitter, saying they would no longer shop at its stores.

By Monday morning, #BoycottWalmart was trending on Twitter.

While several anti-vaxxers had an issue with Walmart’s COVID vaccine policy and called for a boycott of the retailer, others on Twitter supported the shot mandate.
