Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles’ relationship started off with an affair while the heir to the throne was still married to Princess Diana.

Years after the Princess of Wales’ death, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall decided to tie the knot. But in the documentary “The Royal House of Windsor,” royal biographer Christopher Wilson said that Camilla didn’t really want to marry Prince Charles. In fact, the future queen was happy to just be Prince Charles’ mistress.

“Camilla saw life as Charles’ mistress as a bit of fun and a thing that would never be made public and would continue for as long as she was sexually active. I don’t think there was ever any ambition on her part to advance herself to become the wife of the Prince of Wales,” he said.

Following their wedding in 2005, Prince Charles and Camilla have stayed loyal to each other. In fact, the Duchess of Cornwall has been a great source of strength and support for her husband.

While speaking with Hello! magazine, royal author Penny Junor said that she has seen a great change in the heir to the throne over the past couple of years, and it’s primarily because of Camilla.

“He used to be quite a morose character; he was very serious and didn't laugh a lot. Camilla snapped him out of that and she has completely transformed him. He is a much happier man and has so much more confidence these days. It's wonderful to see,” she said.

Royal expert Dickie Arbiter also praised Camilla for what she has done for Prince Charles. While speaking with the same publication, Arbiter described the Duchess of Cornwall as a no-nonsense lady, who believes that there are things she can and cannot change so she won’t waste trying.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles and Camilla made headlines this week after it was announced that they will be going on a joint royal tour with Prince William and Kate Middleton in Leicester.
