Prince Charles was once forced to sever his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles.

In the book “The Duchess: Camilla Parker Bowles and the Love Affair that Rocked the Crown,” royal author Penny Junor said that years ago, the Receiver General of the Duchy of Lancaster, Michael Peat, received instructions to sever the relations between the royal couple.

The people in St. James’s Palace didn’t want Prince Charles to end up with Camilla, but the heir to the throne vowed to never give up on his then-girlfriend.

“The Prince would never give up Camilla, no matter what, and so Peat rapidly changed tack and with the zeal of the freshly converted, became the loudest, fiercest advocate of their marriage,” Junor wrote.

In the end, Peat’s view changed when he realized how effective the royal couple’s partnership was.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles’ goddaughter, Santa Sebag Monteflore, told Vanity Fair that there was a sense of relief when the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall arrived at St. George’s Chapel for their royal wedding in 2005.

“Everybody was so pleased for them—filled with this feeling that they're together at last, and without any doubt about Camilla's position, finally,” she said.

The royal couple’s wedding decorator, Jane Churchill, also said that she thinks Prince Charles ended up with his soulmate. Even though Prince Charles and Camilla’s relationship hurt some people along the way, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is that the royal couple is happy.

Camilla’s nephew, Ben Elliot, is also happy that Prince Charles and Camilla’s children from their previous marriages get along well. He also said that Prince William, Prince Harry, Tom and Laura respect each other.

Prince Charles and Camilla’s relationship was a tumultuous one. They first met in the 1970s but their budding romance was cut short when Prince Charles served in the Royal Navy. At that time, Camilla met Andrew Parker Bowles, and they decided to tie the knot.
