Princess Charlotte may live a luxurious lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean Prince William and Kate Middleton have any plans to tell her why. Thursday, May 2, marks a special day for the royal couple as they will celebrate their little girl’s fourth birthday.

Although the world knows Princess Charlotte is one of the heirs to the British throne, Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams claims the 4-year-old isn’t aware of her prestigious status.

“William and Kate want to bring up their children in as normal a way as possible. However they will be conscious of their status too particularly as they become older as they are the children of the future King and Queen Consort and are princes and princesses,” he told Express UK.

Although Kate and William have not discussed what it means to be a member of the royal family with Charlotte, Fitzwilliams revealed the Princess may be aware that she isn’t like other children.

“When you have appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after Trooping the Colour and accompanied your parents on royal tours as well as living in a palace you know you are different,” the expert explained.

“Charlotte so enjoys waving to the crowds. It’s keeping the balance with as much normality as possible that’s the challenge for her parents in the years ahead,” Fitzwilliams added.

The outlet noted William’s conversation with Princess Diana and Prince Charles about his place in the royal family, may be the reason why Charlotte knows little about her spot in the line of succession.

While appearing in a documentary about the Queen’s Children, Jeremy Paxman revealed Princess Diana told him, William was just a boy when she and Charles told him he may be King some day.

“We talked about our children and she said William often told her that he didn’t really want to be king, and then Harry would say, ‘If you don’t want the job I’ll have it,’” he recalled.

While Kate and Prince William strive to give Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis a normal upbringing, one day they will have to prepare their children for the moment when they may be called to sit on the throne.
