Former professional basketball star Lamar Odom has checked himself into a rehabilitation facility, according to multiple reports Monday. The now-retired hoops star willingly sought treatment just more than a year after he was admitted for a drug overdose.

The rehabilitation program for which Odom checked himself in is for drugs even though he is "clean", People reported.

"Lamar checked into rehab a week ago," the source told People. "He plans to stay for 30 days. It’s a substance abuse program, but he was not abusing drugs when he went in. He is clean. This is a precautionary measure."

It was not immediately announced which rehab facility was treating Odom.

Rehab this time around was apparently all about his family. "He’s trying to take care of himself. He really wants to be better," the source added. "His friends and family encouraged him to go in and he agreed and made the decision."

While the report indicated that the 37-year-old is not being treated for drugs, reports and photos of an apparent drunken and vomiting Odom surfaced this past summer when he was on a flight, TMZ reported at the time. He was ultimately removed after a passenger asked an apparently unsuspecting flight attendant, "Don't you know his history? I don't want a dead body at 30,000 feet."

The passenger was referring to when Odom was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel after having binged on drugs and prostitutes for several days straight in October of last year.

The news of Odom's most recent stint in rehab came days before he and his estranged reality television wife, Khloé Kardashian, were scheduled to officially get divorced, according to UPI.

"With the divorce from Khloé being finalized and the holidays coming up, he doesn’t want to slip up," the source told People.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as additional information becomes available.
