Meghan Markle and Prince Harry won’t have full custody of their baby due to an old law that was drafted by King George I back in 1717.

Martin Coulter, a journalist for Daily Star, said that the law states that Queen Elizabeth II is the one that has full custody of her great-grandchildren. The law was created when the King had a falling out with his son over the way he raised his grandchildren.

Marlene Koenig, a royal expert, explained, “He did it because he had a very poor relationship with his son, the future King George II, so they had this law passed that meant the King was the guardian of his grandchildren. Technically, Meghan and Harry will need permission to travel with their children. The Queen has the last word on parenting decisions like that. But I doubt she would really interfere. It’s more of a formality.”

When the Queen dies, Prince Charles will have the final say over his grandchildren’s care. But years ago, the future king was required to seek permission for Prince William to go to a holiday camp in the United States when he was a teenager.

But Markle and Prince Harry need not worry about these things at the moment because the former actress won’t give birth until the spring of 2019. On Monday, Kensington Palace announced that all the members of the royal family are delighted over the news of Markle’s pregnancy.

Prior to the announcement, there were already several indications that suggested Markle was indeed expecting. Judi James, a body language expert, said that royal fans missed these clues.

“The most comprehensive clues that Meghan might be pregnant came when she was launching the Grenfell cookbook. Firstly, there was her mother, Doria, arriving from the U.S. to temporarily take Harry’s place at her daughter’s side as mothers tend to do when there’s a first baby on the way, looking proud and protective and leaving a rather bashful-looking Harry following along behind,” she told Express.

James also said that another clue was when Markle placed a protective hand over her stomach. She also said that all of a sudden, Harry has been placing a protective hand on his wife when Markle was the one that did it to Harry since they got married. Additionally, Markle’s choices in clothes changed drastically.
