When the “Suits” Season 9 series finale aired, fans were disappointed that Meghan Markle didn’t appear in the final episode. While some believe the Duchess of Sussex turned down the opportunity to return to the USA network show, the series creator claimed she never received an offer.

Meghan wrapped up her storyline as Rachel Zane and left the show after Season 7 when she became engaged to Prince Harry. Although she and former costar, Patrick J. Adams left the show at the same time, he appeared on the season finale.

During an interview with Deadline, Aaron Korsh revealed he had concerns about reaching out to Meghan and asking her to return to the series.

“I thought about asking, and I thought about even using audio footage that we have to come up with something, and in the end, I didn’t ask,” he explained.

“I just thought, I’m going to respect her new life and not put her in the position of having to ask. We decided not to put her in that position so I never asked.”

Even though Meghan didn’t make a cameo in the finale, she was included in the montage at the end of the episode. “I am a nostalgic person. We talked about it. We weren’t sure it would work, and we weren’t sure how much to put in,” Korsh said.

“There were certain people that thought we shouldn’t do it. I was open to hearing that maybe we shouldn’t do it because we did have a lot of endings. All those people, when they actually saw it, decided they wanted it in,” he added.

Although Meghan said goodbye to “Suits” in Season 7, she remained close with her costars and invited them to her royal wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. Since then, Meghan has given birth to her first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently busy on a royal tour of Africa with their baby boy, Archie.
