Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage breakdown hit Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom harder.

According to Abbie Llewelyn of Express, there’s a reason why Princess Diana was more affected in her divorce from Prince Charles compared to the latter. This had something to do with her history because she had abandonment issues.

Princess Diana’s parents divorced when she was still very young. She already had a “sense of abandonment” as confirmed by her friend Debbie Frank and it was compounded by Prince Charles’ move to abandon her, too, by having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles

In Princess Diana’s infamous Panorama interview, she said, “There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.” Many took it as a hint that she was implying about the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s affair while Prince Charles was still married to her.

Princess Diana’s friends revealed that she had no plans of divorcing Prince Charles until Queen Elizabeth II ordered them to divorce. They announced their separation in 1992 and their divorce was only finalized in 1996 because Princess Diana was not very cooperative.

According to Princess Diana, having divorced parents convinced her to try even harder to make her own marriage work because she didn’t want to fall back into the pattern that she had seen in her own family. Unfortunately, just like her parents, her own marriage ended in divorce.

According to British historian Robert Lacey, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh put the blame for Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ failed marriage on their son more. They knew that Prince Charles was to blame.

“[The queen] and her husband, Prince Philip, put more of the blame on Prince Charles,” Lacy said in the documentary “Princes Of The Palace.” “Prince Charles of course, as we since discovered, was already committed emotionally to another woman.”

Prince Charles is happily married to Camilla. The future king and queen consort did receive the Queen’s permission for marriage and tied the knot in 2005. Many believe that Prince Charles has always loved Camilla and was only forced to marry Princess Diana because Camilla wed Andrew Parker Bowles first, so the heir apparent looked for another bride.
