Prince Charles had some reasons why he still married Princess Diana even if he was madly in love with Camilla Parker Bowles.

According to Katie Sewell of Express, the Prince of Wales went on and married the Princess of Wales because he was heartbroken following Camilla’s wedding to Andrew Parker Bowles.

Camilla’s father and Andrew’s brother intervened in their relationship by publishing an engagement notice. The move forced Andrew to propose to Camilla after dating for nearly seven years.

“If this was the case, it could be possible that Prince Charles married Diana because his one true love was already married to another man,” Sewell wrote.

According to Sally Bedell Smith in her book “Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life,” Camilla’s father, Bruce Shand, is not fond of the heir apparent. Shand, an officer in the British Army who fought in World War II, preferred Andrew for his daughter.

When Shand learned about Camilla and Prince Charles’ affair, he called a meeting with the future king. During their meeting, he reportedly accused Prince Charles of “ruining his daughter’s life.” Prince Charles left in tears and there were rumors claiming that the two men had more confrontations after that.

“I think [Shand] was completely frank with him, but they never came to blows,” an insider said.

Another reason was Camilla’s family background. She was not as aristocratic as Princess Diana. Also, Camilla’s dating history was reportedly considered a factor.

Prior to dating Prince Charles, Camilla had a string of boyfriends. She was deemed a woman with experience and at the time, the royal family wanted a virgin bride for the future king.

“It was absolutely vital to have on the throne somebody who was a virgin,” Dr. Piers Brendan said in the documentary “The Royal House of Windsor.” “A future Queen must have no past.”

Prince Charles dated Camilla before he went out with Princess Diana. Based on their relationship timeline, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall began seeing again in 1986, five years after the future king married Princess Diana.
