Princess Diana, Prince William, and Prince Harry have always loved South Africa. When the Princess of Wales was still alive, she frequented the place.

And even after her death, her sons continued to visit the continent. Now, a royal commentator revealed why he thinks the members of the British clan love visiting South Africa.

“William spent a long time, when he was on his gap year, at Lewa Downs in Kenya. It’s a pretty amazing place… Let’s look at the pattern here - where do the royals go?” Duncan Larcombe told Yahoo’s “The Royal Box.”

Larcombe went on to say that it’s not uncommon for royals to go to places where they can be anonymous because this is the only way that they could experience what it’s like to be normal. Whenever Princess Diana, Prince William, and Prince Harry are in South Africa, they get to be treated just like everyone else.

During last year’s interview, the Duke of Cambridge revealed that he first fell in love with South Africa after his trip to Kenya, Botswana, and Tanzania when he was just a teenager. Since then, the dad of three has made it a pact to visit South Africa as often as possible.

And in 2010, Prince William chose Kenya as the perfect destination for him to propose to Kate Middleton. The royal couple was on a mountain top when Prince William knelt down on his knee and proposed to his wife.

“I regularly daydream. Africa is definitely one of the places I go to… It does completely settle me down… [Kate] understands what it means to me being in Africa and my love of conservation… I didn’t really plan it that far in advance… I just knew I wanted it to feel comfortable where I did it,” he said during his engagement interview.

South Africa is also very special to Prince Harry. He and his wife, Meghan Markle, went to Botswana very early on in their relationship.
