“Girls” star Lena Dunham was recently rushed to the hospital after suffering from complications of her endometriosis surgery last month.

Earlier this week, Dunham attended the 2017 Met Gala, and after appearing on the red carpet, she decided to leave the event and seek treatment, according to People. On Thursday, the actress posted a lengthy update about her condition via her Instagram account. Dunham accompanied the post with a photo of herself lying on a hospital bed. She captioned the photo by saying thank you to everyone who wished her well and confirmed that complications arose from her fifth endometriosis surgery.

Last month, the actress penned an article on her website, Lenny Letter, saying that she’s already endometriosis-free. “My surgery went off without a hitch. When I emerged, cotton-mouthed, Randy told me something I hadn’t expected to hear, maybe ever: there was no endometriosis left. Between my surgeries and hormonal intervention, I was disease-free. That doesn’t mean it can never return, but for now, once my sutures have been removed and my bruises have changed from blue to yellow to green to gone, I will be healthy,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, Dunham also wrote a reminder to all women who are suffering from chronic illnesses that they are not weak. Dunham used herself as an example for attending the 2017 Met Gala even just for a few minutes while enduring pain in her abdominal area. “I’ll always be proud of those Met Gala pics – not just because I felt beautiful, surrounded by art and magic, hugging my best friend tightly, but because they’re evidence that women contain steely multitudes,” she wrote.

To conclude her update, the actress also expressed her gratitude over the fact that she has access to healthcare at a time when some Americans are at a risk of losing theirs. “To those in that privileged spot – never forget that we are blessed and can pay it forwards by supporting Planned Parenthood and LGBTQ clinics like Callen-Lorde,” she noted.

Following her hospitalization, a rep close to Dunham told Entertainment Tonight that the actress is already at home resting and recovering well.

In other news, Dunham just said goodbye to her hit HBO TV series, “Girls,” last month. The 10-episode sixth season saw Dunham’s character, Hannah, giving birth to a baby named Grover. While speaking with TV Line, Hannah revealed that Grover has a second name, Theo, but this wasn’t mentioned in the finale episode.

Other than the baby’s second name, “Girls” Season 6 also faced some controversy after Hannah’s baby was revealed to be black. In the show, Hannah was impregnated by Riz Ahmed’s character, Paul-Louis. The baby’s real-life mother was quick to clarify that her son isn’t black. Instead, he’s half Puerto Rican and half Haitian. On her Twitter account, the baby’s mom, Jaclyn Nichole, expressed her disappointment over the reaction that her baby received in the episode. Unfortunately, the original tweet has since been deleted, but it may still be viewed here.

“Girls” Season 6, episode 10, titled “Latching,” aired on HBO on April 16 at 10 p.m. EST.
