“Shameless” Season 10 ended Sunday without a single Fiona sighting, but fans are hoping that will change in Season 11. The Showtime series is ending next year, and showrunner John Wells is already getting questions about actress Emmy Rossum’s possible return.

Of course, fans are suspicious about whether a final Fiona appearance will actually happen. After all, the absent big sister missed Ian (Cameron Monaghan) and Mickey’s (Noel Fisher) wedding. However, that was apparently due to scheduling conflicts.

“She was just starting this new show — ‘Angelyne’ — and she's been preparing for it. I have seen some of the preparation and a lot goes into that. It didn't seem like the moment,” Wells told the Hollywood Reporter. “I previously told her that if her schedule permits that we would like for her to come back and help us say goodbye to the show because Fiona is such an essential part of the family.”

Even though she is busy, the executive producer is definitely going to extend an invitation to join the family for the final sendoff.

“I would love to have had her back the entire time, and she knows that, though,” he explained to TVLine. “But she’s off doing other things. I’m very hopeful that her schedule, which is very busy because she’s wonderfully talented and doing many things, will align with our being, at least, able to get her back for a little bit.”

However, Wells noted that if there are scheduling conflicts, that’s all they are. There is no behind-the-scenes drama keeping Rossum away from the Gallaghers.

“But if not, it won’t be because she doesn’t love us. It’ll just be because she’s got too much else that she’s committed to, which is exciting and great, and we’re all happy for her. I’ve told her all along that I hope that when we end [the show] that it’ll work out, that she can come back, and at least do a little bit for us,” he added.

When Rossum announced her exit from “Shameless” at the end of Season 9, she assured fans that a return was possible.

“I would never close my door on the family,” the actress told Entertainment Weekly in March 2019. “Like I said in what I wrote and what I said to them repeatedly, they should just think of me being down the block. I’m just in New York. It’s not like I’ll never be in L.A. or Chicago ever again, so I’m not that far away.”

She’s currently working on a miniseries for NBC’s new streaming platform Peacock. “Angelyne,” which Rossum stars in and executive produces, follows the mysterious Los Angeles billboard model.
