Lin-Manuel Miranda has updated fans on the status of the “In the Heights” movie while appearing on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show.”

Miranda admitted that he and the production team were “literally” in the process of recording the score for the film when the COVID-19 outbreak began dominating world news.

“We were literally recording the score when all of this started happening,” Miranda said.

Miranda appeared on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" Sunday along with others in the Broadway community to discuss updates on their work. O’Donnell resurrected “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” for one night only to create a benefit live show for those working in the sphere of Broadway or theater-adjacent.

The proceeds from the virtual show went toward The Actors Fund, an organization benefitting those in the performing arts and entertainment industries. The Actors Fund will be helping those in the Broadway community that have been affected by COVID-19, Entertainment Weekly reported.

“In the Heights” was set for release June 26, but Miranda seemed to indicate on O’Donnell’s show that production may have halted because of COVID-19 concerns.

“There’s a lot that remains to be done on that movie,” he said. “We were finishing the score and the mixing and just getting the music exactly right.”

Miranda spoke vaguely about the possibility of pushing back the release date of “In the Heights,” indicating that it’s possible that the decision to hold the film’s premiere might not yet have been made.

“I’m really hopeful that that’s something we all get to watch in the theaters together — when it’s time, and no sooner, to go out,” he said.

“In the Heights” is a movie adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name, based on the book by Quiara Alegría Hudes and music and lyrics from Miranda himself.

Miranda also acts in the film, starring alongside his former “Hamilton” castmate, Anthony Ramos who played the dual roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in the historical musical. Ramos now takes the lead as Usnavi in “In the Heights.”
