Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set to be engaged in the coming months, but before the palace announces anything officially, the prince needs to find a ring for Markle first.

While speaking with People, “The Queen’s Jewels” author, Leslie Field, said that she doesn’t think Prince Harry will be giving Markle a family heirloom as her engagement ring. “I think he will buy her something new and something quite modern,” she said.

Field is also predicting the possibility that Prince Harry will head to a high-end jeweler to have designed for his soon to be fiancée. The author added that it’s possible the engagement ring will be in gold because it seems to be Markle’s preference. The “Suits” actress’ personal jewelry has also been described by Fields as “very pretty, very delicate and almost always gold.”

“I have an idea Harry is going to choose not to go down the traditional route so much, in that he will not have a sapphire,” she said. Queen Mother and Princess Diana both chose the blue stone for their rings, and Princess Diana’s piece of jewelry now belongs to Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton.

Meanwhile, People reported that even though there’s still no certainty when it comes to Markle’s engagement ring, it’s guaranteed that her wedding band will be made from a nugget of Welsh gold from the Clogau St David’s mine. This became a tradition among the royals after the Queen Mother chose it for her wedding in 1923.

But whatever design Markle’s rings will have, Field knows that it will be something symbolic of her and Prince Harry’s relationship. “Harry intends his marriage to be quite different and his ring for Meghan is going to be the start of a family collection of jewelry as opposed to a hand-me-down,” she said.

Markle reportedly loves lower-priced jewelry brands like Missoma and Maya Brenner because they are delicate and simple. But the actress has already been given a Tank Francaise Cartier watch that was previously owned by Princess Diana. However, she has yet to be seen wearing it in public.
