Will ‘The Resident’ Have A Season 3? Renewal, Cancellation Details

“The Resident” Season 2 comes to a close Monday night with an intense finale episode.

Titled “The Unbefriended,” Season 2, episode 23 finds the Chastain Park Memorial doctors and nurses in a time crunch to save both patients and the hospital.

“In an effort to save Chastain, Bell [Bruce Greenwood] considers selling the hospital to a conglomerate, but Kit [Jane Leeves] tries to make him see that the negatives will outweigh the positives,” the synopsis reveals. “With Conrad’s [Matt Czuchry] help, Nic [Emily VanCamp] tracks down Kyle (guest star Corbin Bernsen) and pleads for him to reconsider donating a kidney to Jessie [Julianna Guill].”

The synopsis continues: “Meanwhile, Mina [Shaunette Renée Wilson] voices her concern to Austin [Malcolm-Jamal Warner] when Shira [Stephanie Hunt] is assigned to Micah’s [Patrick R. Walker] surgery and Devon [Manish Dayal] fights for the care of a patient whom the doctors suspect is uninsured.”

Luckily, after what’s sure to be an emotional episode, fans won’t have to wait to find out if they’ll get to see more of their favorite show because “The Resident” has already been renewed for Season 3.

Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment for FOX Entertainment, announced in March that not only had the show not been canceled but it’d been renewed for a whole other season.

In a press release, he said, “Amy Holden Jones, Todd Harthan and the team behind ‘The Resident’ continue to showcase their brilliant storytelling, revealing both the triumphs and tragedy within the medical world.

“Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp and Bruce Greenwood, along with the stellar cast, have developed rich and compelling characters through their heartfelt performances. We want to thank our producing partners, 20th Century Fox Television, who have steered these two extraordinary series. Both ‘9-1-1’ and ‘The Resident’ have many, many more stories to tell and we can’t wait to deliver them to fans next season.”
