A 21-year-old woman in India was allegedly raped by her cousin while her husband recorded the incident on his smartphone around two weeks ago, the police said.

The victim told the police that he went to a village near the city of Bhopal to meet an occult practitioner on July 21 in the hope of curing her infertility. She was accompanied by her husband and his broher to the village where their aunt lived, The Times of India reported, citing local police station officer Ramesh Rai.

The Shajapur native have been married to her husband for two years and they have no children, the police said.

The woman was talking to her husband and cousin when she was locked inside a room by the aunt, the daily reported.

"Her husband helped the accused cousin when he allegedly outraged her modesty, and the husband recorded the incident on his smartphone," Rai said.

The aunt had allegedly threatened to kick the woman out of the home if she revealed the incident to anyone.

The woman returned home to Shajapur on July 26 and informed her in-laws about the incident, and they allegedly threatened her as well if she approached police over the assault.

Authorities learned about the incident after the woman was able to contact police with the help of her own family.

"Later, she somehow managed to contact her family members and they helped her in filing a police complaint against the accused," Rai was quoted as saying.

A first information report was registered at Kalapipal police station last Saturday based on the woman's complaint, the officer added.

The case diary was transferred to the police station which has jurisdiction over the area where the alleged crime happened.

A case of rape and criminal conspiracy was registered against her husband, cousin, aunt, mother-in-law and father-in-law, among several others.

It was unclear if the incident had taken place before or after the woman had met with the occult practitioner, Rai said.

"It would be clear during investigations," he added.

The names of the accused in the case were withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
