A Utah high school health teacher was arrested Sunday after she allegedly shot and killed her ex-husband’s new girlfriend in front of their 3-year-old twins. Chelsea Watrous Cook was booked for aggravated first-degree murder at the Salt Lake County Jail and is being held on a $1 million bond.

The 32-year-old was visiting the apartment of her ex-husband, Travis Cook, in Midvale, to bring cold medicine to one of their children when the incident took place, Fox 13 reported. When Chelsea arrived at the apartment, Travis' new girlfriend, 26-year-old Lisa Williams, was in the house. Chelsea's ex-husband allegedly asked her to leave, but she locked herself inside the bathroom, according to reports. Once she left the bathroom, Chelsea walked toward her coat but suddenly pulled out a handgun and allegedly fired three to five rounds at Williams.

Travis told officers he quickly grabbed the gun from his ex-wife and did his best to give CPR to his girlfriend as his children watched. A probable cause affidavit revealed that Williams was struck twice in the torso and later died at a hospital from gunshot wounds.

“Officers found the victim with at least two gunshots to her torso,” the complaint said. “The victim was transported to a local hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries.”

Court records show Chelsea's husband filed for divorce in August 2017, and it was finalized in January. The mother of two, who worked as a health teacher at Skyridge High School in Lehi, is currently facing domestic violence charges in a Herriman justice court related to an Oct. 16 incident. Court records do not detail the incident. A case related to that incident was filed in Herriman City in early November. She had pleaded not guilty.

Alpine School District released a statement offering support "to any of you who may be in need."

"This type of news is hard to comprehend and we want you to know that teachers, counselors and your parents can help provide support in this difficult time," the statement read. The school district said it was not aware of the domestic violence charges filed against Chelsea.
