A woman poisoned her three-year-old son to death before killing herself. The incident took place in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Monday.

The woman’s husband returned home from work Monday evening and found his wife and son lying motionless. Police investigation revealed that the woman and her son were suffering from prolonged illness. While the woman had high blood pressure, the boy was suffering from a serious respiratory condition.

On Monday, the woman first poisoned her son before strangling him. After ensuring that he was dead, she consumed poison. An autopsy revealed that traces of poisonous material were found in both their bodies. Strangulation marks were also found on the boy’s neck and face by the doctors.

Investigation was ongoing and police were collecting statements from other family members.

The incident comes a day after a woman in Tripura poisoned her four-year-old son and seven-year-old daughter before hanging herself from the ceiling of the home. Investigation revealed that the woman took the drastic step following a fight with her husband who was at work when the incident took place. Investigation was ongoing and police had detained the husband for questioning.
