KEY POINTS

  • France has become the new favorites to win the World Cup following Brazil's exit
  • Argentina and Croatia are set to replay their 2018 group stage matchup in the semifinals
  • France and Morocco's stonewall defenses will go head-to-head

The 2022 World Cup has four teams remaining in contention for the prestigious trophy and fans are raring to watch how it will all play out.

DraftKings Sportsbook recently released the odds for the World Cup title based on the teams' upcoming opponent and recent performance.

  • France: plus-110
  • Argentina: plus-150
  • Croatia: plus-700
  • Morocco: plus-1000

Because of Brazil's unceremonious exit from the World Cup at the hands of Croatia, France jumped from plus-400 favorites to plus-110 as they are in a better position than ever to go back-to-back

Argentina vs. Croatia

Lionel Messi's dreams of winning a World Cup title are still very much alive after pulling off the stunner against the Netherlands with Argentina advancing on penalties on a score of 4-3.

The same can be said for Croatia captain Luka Modric whose side benefitted from Brazil's disastrous penalty outing with poor attempts from Rodrygo and Marquinho.

Croatia's defense has been anchored by the shot-stopping prowess of goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic who turned away every single shot in their quarterfinal match against Brazil, save for Neymar's absolute beauty of a goal.

There is history between these two teams as they also collided in the 2018 edition of the global soccer tournament's group stages as part of Group D with Croatia winning that time 3-0 after second half goals from Modric, Ivan Rakitic and Ante Rebic.

Argentina's offense, powered by Messi and Julian Alvarez's combination of six goals, will have to contend with a Croatian midfield that will be working overtime to prevent any real chances at goal from the defensive third.

Fans are set to witness a classic case of offense versus defense, and it would not be all that surprising if this match turns into another penalty shootout.

Prediction: Croatia 0, Argentina 0. Croatia advances on penalties.

France vs. Morocco

The 2018 World Cup winners outlasted a very game England squad thanks to the efforts of Auriel Tchouameni and national team veteran Olivier Giroud, advancing to the semifinals 2-1.

Granted that Harry Kane's penalty miss in the 83rd minute was a godsend for the French, one cannot discredit their effort in turning their opponents' mistakes into opportunities and that will be the key against Morocco.

For the remaining African team in the tournament, Morocco sent Cristiano Ronaldo and the rest of Portugal packing when Youssef En-Nesyri scored the lone goal of the match in the 42nd minute.

Ronaldo had an opportunity to tie the game up in the first minute of stoppage time after 90 minutes, but it turned up unsuccessful.

Both teams have the benefit of having stonewall defenses that can immediately get the ball out to the midfield and transition into scoring opportunities, though it would be extremely difficult to discount France at this point in the World Cup.

Prediction: France 1, Morocco 0
