KEY POINTS

  • Paul Heyman's firing gives several twists for the WWE Day 1 main event
  • Heyman reuniting with Brock Lesnar holds no certainty
  • Reigns firing Heyman could be part of a storyline act against Lesnar

The December 17 edition of WWE SmackDown ended with a big twist with Universal Champion Roman Reigns firing his special counsel, Paul Heyman.

The angle used is trust issues, particularly tied to Brock Lesnar who rocked the WWE circle with a bevy of developments.

Being his trusted aide, "The Tribal Chief" was livid for not being properly informed by Heyman of everything.

Heyman explained that it was all to “protect” Reigns. While understandable, that did not sit well with the Universal Champion, who ended up firing his on-screen adviser and giving him a beating as well.

It was the perfect opening for Lesnar to emerge and take out The Usos and then Reigns.

Now, all eyes are on what lies ahead for Heyman. The logical choice would be to see him reuniting with “The Beast Incarnate.”

Looking ahead, Heyman is still likely to have some capacity over the sudden turn of events.

One possibility is that while most speculate a reunion between Heyman and Lesnar, there is also the angle that it could all be an act.

There is also that possibility that Heyman could be taking a break and focus on work backstage. All that should get some clarity on the next episode of WWE SmackDown.

As things stand right now, Reigns and Lesnar will face each other once more at WWE Day 1 set for January 1 for the Universal Title.

With Heyman out, it will be interesting how Reigns will survive Lesnar although expect The Usos to be around to provide an assist.

Heyman could still be involved in the match. Even if he does not align with Lesnar, he could still be a distraction without taking sides.

The reason for this is payback for his firing, something that could cost Reigns the belt.

Another scenario would be to see Heyman cost Lesnar the match to prove his loyalty to Reigns.

A distraction alone can make a big difference when the two behemoths collide at WWE Day 1 to start 2022 with a bang.
