Sony is now aggressively marketing its newly launched Xperia M4 Aqua. It has launched a promotional website to proudly boast that the Xperia M4 Aqua is a washable smartphone.

The Japanese tech giant launched a Dirty Phones website to educate the public on how germs pervade mobile phones. It states that 92 percent of handsets have bacteria thriving on them and 16 percent of hands contain E.coli, a kind of bacteria that is usually found in feces.

Bacteria come in contact with handsets because of actions such as greeting, exchanging cash or sweat and so on. To get rid of germs from smartphones, it suggests using tissue paper, ultra-violet (UV) light cleaner, and alcohol wipes to clean the device. However, it further states that using a tissue may not completely eliminate the germs, and alcohol-based wipes can cause damage to the display. Also, UV light cleaners are costly and not easily accessible.

The simplest way to clean a smartphone is to wash it. The Xperia M4 Aqua can be washed to remove germs by following the instructions suggested by Sony. In order to wash the device, all the ports should be closed firmly.

Before charging the handset, the USB connector should be dried thoroughly. Lastly, the device should not be immersed more than 1.5 meters of water. Also, users should be careful to make sure that the handset does not come in contact with seawater, saltwater, chlorinated water, or other liquids such as drinks.

Sony is marketing the Xperia M4 Aqua as “the waterproof camera phone for everyone.” According to the Xperia M4 Aqua features mentioned on the official Sony Mobile website, the IP65 certification makes the handset resistant to fine dust particles and IP68 certification protects it from water splashes and submersion.

The handset will remain undamaged if it is kept in 1.5 meters depth of water for as long as 30 minutes, provided the water is fresh water. Also, the handset is fitted with a scratch-resistant full HD screen.

It is now available for purchase in the U.S. and Canada. On Amazon, the unlocked Xperia M4 Aqua is priced at $349. In Canada, Videotron is the first carrier to offer the M4 Aqua. It is selling the device with a low on-contract price of $29.95. Without a contract, Videotron is selling it for $299.95. Other carriers in Canada such as Virgin Mobile, Wind Mobile, Bell and Fido are also going to sell the handset, states Mobile Syrup.
