Donation services company Goodwill announced Tuesday that it is launching of its online thrifting e-commerce website GoodwillFinds. The new venture offers 100,000 of its donated items to be purchased online with more to soon be added.

"Our new social enterprise makes it easier for the conscious consumer to shop sustainably online, while heightening the thrifting experience they've come to love at Goodwill," said Matthew Kaness, CEO of Goodwill Finds.

The move helps the organization keep donated items available for consumers, rather than kept in warehouses or deposited at landfills. The items also have the opportunity to reach a larger audience online instead of only locally.

The non-profit organization, which operates in 17 countries with over 4,200 stores, is moving into a growing retail space. Global e-commerce sales jumped 22% in 2021 and that figure is expected to rise as online shopping becomes more prominent.

Thrift-store shopping has also grown as more consumers look for sustainable clothing options. Reports show the industry has grown 1.1% per year on average between 2017-2022.

"GoodwillFinds furthers that mission through a modern online shopping experience – backed by a century-old philosophy – to harness resale with purpose," Steve Preston, CEO of Goodwill Industries International, told USA Today in a statement on Wednesday.
