Zac Efron was all sorts of slick for the Los Angeles premiere of The Lucky One, held at the legendary Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Monday.

Efron, 24, was joined by his co-star Taylor Schilling, who donned a glamorous black number from the Calvin Klein Resort collection.

The Lucky One, based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks, tells the story of Logan (Efron), a US Marine who returns home after three years in Iraq. He goes on a mission to search for a woman (Schilling) he believes was his lucky charm.

It was me and a fellow actor and like 50 Marines, real Marines. So I would just say to the guys, 'Tell me if there's anything I'm doing that doesn't look legit. Get my back here' . . . and they were great. That was probably one of the most fun days that we had. Just thinking back to 'High School Musical,' I never thought I'd be doing that, Efron told USA Today on Monday.

And what a long way Efron's come from High School Musical. Since bidding adieu to the trilogy some four years ago, Efron has taken on more serious roles in films like Me and Orson Welles, Charlie St. Cloud and The Lucky One.

I had a specific goal that I set to achieve which was, 'How do I get from where I was at professionally and sort of move on to more mature roles in a graceful way, without cashing in and keeping my integrity?' I feel like I've done that. This movie kind of marks that for me, Efron told USA Today.

Efron fans, get ready for a whole lot of mature (and that much-talked about bra-unhooking scene) in The Lucky One, which opens in theaters on Friday.
