Zac Efron’s weekend brawl while visiting Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles is raising eyebrows Thursday, as many wonder why the recently rehabbed actor was in an area known for drug dealing and if he is still sober.

According to a report from TMZ, Efron, 26, and his bodyguard were spotted fighting with three unidentified individuals under the Harbor Freeway in Los Angeles Sunday night. The “That Awkward Moment“ star, who is rumored to have been punched in the mouth, reportedly told authorities the altercation occurred after he tossed a bottle out of his vehicle window near a group of “transients” while awaiting a tow truck after “running out of gas.”

“It was the hardest I’ve even been hit in my life,” Efron told law enforcement when questioned, says TMZ.

According to the report, Efron was attacked while coming to the aid of his bodyguard after he was confronted by two transients. TMZ reports that no arrests have been made since police termed the altercation “mutual combat.”

So is Zac Efron still sober? While it is unclear if Efron, who most recently underwent treatment for cocaine abuse last year, has fallen off the wagon (his rep has yet to comment on the incident), TMZ is reporting that the area where the fight occurred is a known location for “drug deals.” A source has also since told the gossip site the actor was “obviously intoxicated” at the time.

Earlier this month, an insider close to Efron told People magazine he was attending 12-step meetings but was still dealing with “temptations” following his 2013 stint in rehab. Despite his struggles, the insider said the actor was trying hard to keep his sobriety intact. “He cut most everyone out of his life who were part of the party scenes,” said the source.

Efron was last spotted promoting his comedy film “Neighbors” at SXSW in Austin, Texas, on March 8, with People reporting that the former Disney star told fans he was grateful for scoring his latest gig. “I’ve been blessed to have the opportunities I’ve had,” said Efron. “I couldn’t have happened better. I’m stoked.”
