Emmy-winning actress Zendaya is in talks to play Ronnie Spector, the lead singer of the Ronettes, in an upcoming biopic.

The biopic will focus on Spector’s early career, especially on the formation of the Ronettes band. The upcoming movie will also feature her divorce from Phil Spector and her fight to gain back the rights to her music, Variety reported.

The project will be handled by A24 and New Regency, and Marc Platt will serve as a producer, Deadline reported. Jonathan Greenfield and Spector will be the executive producers. The outlet reported that Zendaya will be one of the film's producers.

The film companies are trying to rope in Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Jack Sibblies Drury for the script, per Variety.

Platt is known for producing some of the biggest films in recent times. He has been attached to projects like “Into The Woods” (2014), “Bridge of Spies” (2015), “La La Land” (2016), “The Girl on the Train” (2016), “Mary Poppins Returns” (2018) and “Aladdin” (2019).

His future projects include the likes of “The Little Mermaid,” “Babylon,” “The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara” and “Legally Blonde 3.”

Meanwhile, the “Spiderman: Far From Home” star made history during this year’s Emmys by becoming the youngest actress to win the trophy for outstanding lead actress in a drama series for HBO’s “Euphoria.”

“I just want to say there is hope in the young people out there - I know that our TV show doesn't always feel like a great example of that - but there is hope in our young people and I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets, 'I see you, I admire you, I thank you,” Zendaya said after her monumental win at the Emmys.

The 24-year-old actress will next be seen in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” and Sam Levinson’s “Malcolm & Marie.”

Netflix shelled out a whopping $30 million for “Malcolm & Marie,” which also stars John David Washington in the lead role.

“Malcolm & Marie” tells the story of a filmmaker (Washington) and his girlfriend (Zendaya) returning home after a movie premiere. However, things take a turn when their celebrations are halted by several revelations about their relationship that test the strength of their love.
