Alexander Skarsgård debuted a new partly bald haircut to the shock of fans Thursday. Fans said Skarsgård, 41, was nearly unrecognizable as he hit the red carpet for the Volez Voguez Voyagez x Louis Vuitton event in New York City with his new look. The top of the actor's head was completely buzzed off as he left the rest of his blonde hair around the back and sides.

Skarsgård hid his new hairstyle early Thursday as he was spotted wearing a navy beanie in NYC, People reported Friday. This made the big reveal all the more shocking. The Internet was seemingly not amused by Skarsgård's new look.

Most Twitter users weren't fans of Skarsgård's partly bald haircut.

Very few appeared to find the heartthrob to still be attractive, despite the dramatic cut.

The Emmy Award-winning actor has a long list of films in the works, including "The Kill Team," "Mute" and "The Aftermath," among others. Skarsgård's new haircut, however, is reportedly for his upcoming film "The Hummingbird Project."

"The Hummingbird Project," which began shooting Friday, is about two high-frequency traders who go up against their former boss to earn millions of dollars in a fiber-optic cable deal, according to IMDb. Written and directed by Kim Nguyen, Skarsgård is slated to star in the drama flick alongside Jesse Eisenberg and Salma Hayek.

Skarsgård has been vocal about his dedication to his craft before.

"I think if vanity becomes a part of who you are as an actor…it's important that you let yourself be true to the character," Skarsgård told E! in 2013. "If you're vain and you're like, 'Oh my fans won't like it if I'm a little chubby or if I'm pale or if I look older than I am,' I'm not doing my job then."

Many Hollywood actors have resorted to different methods to get into character. Daniel Day-Lewis is among a list of actors that have gone to various extremes to prepares for roles, including catching pneumonia for "Gangs Of New York." Jared Leto also reportedly went to extreme measures as he lived on the streets for two weeks to prepare for cult classic "Requiem for a Dream."
