Connor Cruise, the adopted son of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, has apologized for an offensive comment he made on Twitter while chewing on sour grapes from a bitter Patriots Super Bowl loss, according to the New York Post.

The die-hard New England fan has fallen out with his former PR rep Todd Krim after an argument that started on Twitter. After the Patriots' devastating loss to the Giants, Krim gently taunted Cruise in a tweet: Sorry @TheConnorCruise maybe next year!!!

According to Krim, Cruise responded to his tweet with a text: That was a gay ass [bleeping] tweet . . . U don't say [bleep] like that about my team the second they lose. Low.

Krim reportedly wrote back: Umm ok . . . Dude I was [bleeping] joking.

To which Cruise responded, That was [bleeped] and Idgaf (I don't give a [bleep]). (Thank you to the Post for translating.)

Krim reportedly sent an email to publicists with screen grabs of the text exchange, and an announcement that he had ended professional and personal relations with Cruise.

In the email, which was excerpted in the Post, Krim described Cruise's comments as highly offensive and what I consider homophobic and said I am no longer working with Connor Cruise.

In fact, I am no longer speaking with [him], Krim continued. I refuse to be professionally (or even personally) associated with someone that engages in this sort of behavior . . . I just thought you should know who and what you're dealing with.

Speaking directly to the Post, Krim said: I did a lot for [Connor], and he was less than respectful and appreciative . . . I made a joke, and let's just say his reaction was not what I expected. It's disappointing when you think someone is one way and they turn out to be another.

Cruise offered an apology to the Post via a representative. What I texted was unacceptable. It is not a reflection of who I am and what I feel, and it certainly won't happen again.

While there is no excuse for Connor's use of a homophobic term, and while there is certainly reason to believe that a child brought up in the Church of Scientology -- which considers homosexuals sexual perverts -- might have some homophobic leanings, something about Krim's response doesn't quite sit right.

The fact that Krim would do a media blast chronicling the feud with Cruise is enough to raise eyebrows. But apparently Krim is also rather selective in what he considers homophobic.

Unless we're missing something, Connor's use of the word gay in the pejorative is the primary offense. But on the day of the game, Krim retweeted the following message from @chrissyteigen: my gay agent just gave me approval to say that this is the gayest Super Bowl performance ever.

Sure, Krim didn't write the message himself, and the woman had the disclaimer of permission from her gay agent. But given that most people probably haven't heard of Krim until this happened, it's enough to question his motivations.

What do you think? Is Krim justified in his reaction, or is this all a smear campaign to boost his own visibility?
