A shooting incident took place Monday night in a Dallas neighborhood and it is reportedly being investigated by the Dallas Police Department. A police official reportedly shot a man, who was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, while the officer also suffered a cut on his hand.

The shooting reportedly happened in the 1600 block of Retail Road, near Skillman Street and East Northwest Highway, Officer Kevin Wetherington, an official from Dallas police's media division, said on Twitter, according to The Dallas Morning News.

The report also said that, before the latest incident, this year alone, police officials have shot 14 people so far, killing 10 of them. Five other shots by officials reportedly had missed.

The incident comes at a time when the U.S. is witnessing widespread protests against the use of excessive force by police, after the killing of Michael Brown, a black teenager shot dead by a white police officer in Missouri, and Eric Garner in New York, who died from a police chokehold.
