Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon is putting herself first in the wake of the controversy involving Mama June and their entire family.

The 19-year-old reality star recently retweeted a strong message on why it’s OK to prioritize one’s self when making big decisions.

“It’s ok to live in your hometown for the rest of your life. It’s ok to move 2-12 hours away. It’s ok to get married after 2 years of dating. It’s ok to get married after 6 months. It’s OK to make yourself happy. always put yourself first,” the tweet read.

Although Lauryn’s post seems to be very self-centered, it’s undeniable how she’s been very selfless when it comes to taking care of her younger sister, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson.

Ever since Mama June and boyfriend Geno Doak got arrested in mid-March for drug-related charges, Pumpkin filled in for her mother in promoting their WE tv series. She’s also welcomed Alana to her home because the former “Toddlers & Tiaras” star is afraid to come home to Mama June after Geno’s arrest on the set of their show.

In the finale of “Mama June: From Not To Hot” Season 3, it was revealed that Pumpkin has been granted temporary custody over Alana while Mama June is away. Apparently, Mama June chose to be with Geno despite the arrests and in spite of his cheating scandal involving random women.

For the last episode of the series, Lauryn, Alana and other family members staged an intervention in hopes of getting Mama June back. Though Mama June agreed to check into a rehab facility after the intervention, she left everyone shocked when she exited the facility less than 12 hours later to reunite with Geno.

As of late, Honey Boo Boo continues to live with Pumpkin, whom she called her “BFF” in a recent Instagram post. The sisters have decided to distance themselves from all the drama surrounding Mama June since the latter has chosen to live the casino life with her ex-convict lover.

Early this month, Pumpkin voiced an optimistic message on Twitter saying, “One day you’ll wake p and all of a sudden the weight of the last few weeks will be lifted off your shoulders. You can’t control when the day comes, all you can do is stay strong and trust that it is coming.”
