Update: 3:58 p.m. Fans will also be able to play several PlayStation 4 games on 30 kiosks featuring spotlight PS4 titles.
Original Story Below:
After Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), GameStop (NYSE:GME), Best Buy (NYSE:BBY), Target (NYSE:TGT) and other retailers began accepting pre-orders for the Sony (NYSE:SNE) PlayStation 4 back in June, stock quickly dwindled and several inventory statuses on their websites and in-store quickly switched from “PS4 Available for pre-order” to “PS4 Pre-Orders Out of Stock.”
Then came a brief “restocking” of more PS4 pre-orders at several retailers earlier this fall, and those were quickly snatched up, leaving unlucky consumers searching high and low for a PS4 in the holiday retail market.
On the PS4’s Nov. 15 launch day, retailers will have a few PlayStation 4 consoles in stock on top of pre-order PS4 consoles, according to NBC News. However, several reports say PlayStation 4 shortages may leave many would-be buyers empty-handed.
But for eager players and shoppers in the New York City metro area, there may be some hope. According to a PlayStation blog post by Jennifer Clark, senior director of product publicity for PlayStation, 444 additional PS4s will be available for sale at The Standard, Highline hotel in New York City at midnight on Nov. 15. According to Clark, “Lines will start immediately at Washington and Little West 12th.” However, only credit cards will be accepted -- not cash.
In celebration of Sony’s launch of the PlayStation 4 on Nov. 15, games developed for the PS4 will also be projected on walls and other “nontraditional” locations. According to the same blog post, fans may also be able to meet and play the PS4 with video-game industry celebrities who are unnamed at this time.
Let us know what you’re looking forward to most with the launch of the Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) in the comments.
The Standard Hotel, Highline is at 848 Washington Street in New York, N.Y.
