‘Sex And The City’
Will another actress portray Samantha Jones in “Sex and the City” 3? HBO

“Sex and the City” 3 may or may not recast the role of Samantha Jones following the controversies surrounding Kim Cattrall.

While speaking with Emily Nussbaum at the New Yorker Festival (via People), director and executive producer Ryan Murphy shared his two cents about the ongoing discussions. “I don’t get it! Look, I would be very devastated if I created something cultural like that and 95 percent of the team said, ‘Let’s do it,’ but there was a hold on it,” he said. But Murphy clarified that he isn’t blaming Cattrall for the shelving of the sequel.

Murphy simply suggested that the creators and producers of “Sex and the City” should consider recasting the character since Cattrall no longer wants to return. In recent weeks, cast member Sarah Jessica Parker confirmed that the third installment will no longer be a go.

While speaking with Extra, the actress said, “It’s over. We’re not doing it. I’m disappointed. We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story. It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.”

After Parker’s interview was published, the Daily Mail reported that the cancellation of the third movie was a result of Cattrall’s huge demands. The actress fired back via her Twitter account and clarified that the only demand she had was to not star in the sequel.

Following Cattrall’s explanation, “Sex and the City” cast member Willie Garson took the side of the rest of the cast and crew and indirectly called Cattrall “toxic.” Fans of the HBO original series also flocked Cattrall’s Twitter with questions about why she does not want to reprise her role.

Most recently, the actress replied to one of the her fans and asked everyone to “move on” from the issue, as well as the possibility of a sequel with her in it, because she has already moved on from “Sex and the City.” In her tweet, Cattrall asked everyone to just watch “Sensitive Skin” on Netflix if they really want to see her.
