An 11-year-old boy was killed in a crocodile attack in Binga district of Zimbabwe, on Friday.

According to local reports, the boy, identified as Munkuli Amusomi, was a grade five student. On Friday evening, the boy was swimming in a stream with his friends when the crocodile attacked him. The reptile dragged the victim into the deeper part and viciously attacked him. The boy succumbed to the injuries.

Confirming the incident, Farai Marinyane, the acting Binga district coordinator, said, “I can confirm receiving a report of a fatal crocodile attack. A young boy was dragged into deep waters at a stream at Binga Centre. Police attended the scene and retrieved the body.”

Expressing concern, Marinyane added that the crocodile has been creating trouble in the area since a few months. It attacked cows and goats.

The incident comes a few months after an 11-year-old girl in Zimbabwe wrestled a crocodile to save her friend. Rebecca Munkombwe and nine-year-old Latoya Muwani were swimming in a stream when the former heard the latter screaming for help.

Recalling the incident, Munkombwe had said, she heard her friend screaming that “something was biting her hand.” Munkombwe noticed that her friend “was struggling to float.” Upon realizing that her friend was grabbed by a crocodile, Munkombwe jumped on the reptile’s back. She wrestled with the crocodile and gouged its eyes.
