A 19-year-old woman was arrested for trying to run over her boyfriend with her car in Michigan.

Kalamazoo police said the incident took place at an apartment complex off of Howard Street north of Michigan Avenue on Wednesday. The woman knocked down some signs and bumped into at least one other vehicle while trying to run over her boyfriend, according to WKZO.

Neighbor Michala Massengill spoke to WOOD TV8 and said she couldn’t believe what she saw with the 19-year-old was behind the wheel.

“I was just screaming to call 911. I couldn’t even find my phone fast enough. I was just screaming … at her boyfriend to stop her. He just kept saying, ‘She’s going to go to jail.’ From there, I called 911 immediately. They got here so quick,” Massengill told the outlet.

Responding officers quickly arrived to find the woman walking away. Both, the woman and her boyfriend were detained at first. When officers found out about the events that unfolded, they realized the boyfriend was the victim and released him. The accused woman, whose name was not revealed, was taken into custody.

Meanwhile, Massengill said she is filling out insurance claims because her car was struck during the incident. She noted that she’s grateful her car wasn’t left with serious damage.

“The sound made it seem like she took my whole front end off,” the neighbor told the publication. “But as soon as I went down there, I just see scratches and the dent, then I was like ‘OK, it’s not as bad as seems, a definite easy fix, and I’m glad no one got hurt or ran over.’”

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said the woman is accused of domestic assault, felonious assault with a motor vehicle and malicious destruction of property.

It was reported that the woman will be released. Further proceedings in the case will take place after investigators estimate property damages.

A similar incident was reported in 2020 after a woman in Nevada killed her boyfriend by running over him. The victim, James Dutter, 42, was rushed to the hospital after the collision. On the way to the hospital, he told an officer that his girlfriend ran him over because he wanted to end their relationship. Dutter spent five days in the hospital before succumbing to multiple blunt force injuries.
