At least three children were injured and had to be airlifted to the hospital after a car barreled through a classroom in a California preschool on Monday evening.

The crash happened at La Petite Academy located at 28041 Seco Canyon Road in Santa Clarita, KABC-TV reported, citing LA County Fire Department. Paramedics responded at the scene at around 4:30 p.m. ET.

The vehicle in question belongs to a school family member, the school academy said as per Santa Maria Times. The three children and a staff member were present in the classroom when the car struck the building and navigated into the classroom. All of them were reportedly taken to a hospital for evaluation.

All the injured children are below the age of 4. No major injuries were reported in the incident.

The KABC-TV report carries the footage of the children being airlifted to the hospital in an LA County Fire Department helicopter.

The driver of the vehicle, who has not been publicly identified, was cited for not having a license. Santa Maria Times reported that the driver is a grandmother who had come to pick up some children at the school.

The school was evacuated and was temporarily closed, according to KABC-TV.

"When it went through, it landed on her. They found her underneath the bookshelf" Steve Chandler, a parent, said.

The crash is currently being investigated.
