A 7-year-old girl was killed and her father was seriously wounded in a shooting at a McDonald's drive-thru in Chicago on Sunday, police said.

The incident happened at around 5:20 p.m. ET in Chicago's Human square when 28-year-old Jontae Adams and his 7-year-old daughter, Jaslyn Adams, were sitting inside a vehicle at a McDonald's parking lot.

Jaslyn, who was reportedly struck multiple times, was taken to a hospital but did not survive. Jontae was shot in his torso and was also rushed to the same hospital. His condition was listed as serious, police said, Chicago Sun-Times reported.

A McDonald's employee, who was not identified, told the outlet that he saw two people getting out of a gray car in the drive-thru and was shooting at the victim's vehicle.

Police believe it was a gang-related incident. The vehicle that the victims were sitting in had tinted glasses, so it was possible that the shooters did not know the child was inside the car, police sources said, WGNTV reported.

Jaslyn, also known as Pinky, had three siblings and was reportedly living with her mother. When she visited her father, the duo used to spend time together at McDonald's.

The family said Jaslyn went to Cameron Elementary School and loved to dance and make Tik Tok videos.

Jontae had frantically called his mother, Lawanda McMullen, after the shooting. "Ma, come get me. They just shot my baby," Mc Mullen recalled, Sun-Times reported.

Police have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the shooting.
