90-Year-Old New Jersey Man Fatally Shot Neighbor Following A History Of Dispute: Police

Authorities in New Jersey arrested an elderly man Saturday after he allegedly fatally shot his neighbor.

Authorities from the Trenton Police Department were called to a home on Sheridan Avenue just before 6:30 p.m. regarding gunshots fired in the area, ABC 6 reported.

On arrival, deputies found a 65-year-old female victim outside the home suffering from a gunshot wound. Police found the suspect, Clent Morris, 90, inside the home with an eye wound, the outlet reported. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. The identity of the deceased woman wasn’t revealed by cops.

A neighbor told The Trentonian on condition of anonymity that the fatal shooting occurred in the middle of an ongoing dispute between the elderly suspect and the victim.

Police said Morris and the neighbor knew each other previously and quarreled frequently. “At this time, it appears that the suspect and victim knew each other and have had disputes with each other in the past,” the Trentonian reported, citing a news release by authorities.

“Detectives Jeffrey Vetter, Michael Gettler, and Gregory Woods were close enough to hear the gunfire and immediately responded to the scene,” the release read, according to The Trentonian.

The case is reportedly being investigated by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force. Charges against Morris are pending. New Jersey Mayor Reed Gusciora described the deadly incident as “domestic violence,” according to The Trentonian.

In May 2021, an elderly man in Mannford, Oklahoma fatally shot his neighbors before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide. Police were notified by neighbors who heard a gunshot and upon arrival, deputies found Mary Milam, 57, and Donald Langdon, 59 dead outside their home. The suspect, James Hancock, was rushed to a hospital after admitting to shooting the couple. Police were trying to determine the exact reason behind the fatal shooting.
