  • Simon Cowell interrupted Ashley Marina during her audition for "America's Got Talent"
  • Sofia Vergara asked Cowell to give Marina another chance
  • Marina sang an original song she wrote for her dad and earned the judges’ votes

“America’s Got Talent” fans were not happy with the way Simon Cowell interrupted a 12-year-old contestant during her audition.

On Tuesday’s (June 16) episode of “AGT,” Ashley Marina showcased her singing talent in front of the judges. However, she did not only sing once or twice, but three times to earn the judges’ favor, especially Cowell’s yes.

Marina was singing Martina McBride’s “Anyway” when Cowell raised his hand to stop the audience from clapping and making noises. It also prompted Marina to stop singing.

Cowell asked Marina if she had a second song, to which she said, “Yes.”

“That backing track was very overbearing, so can we try the second song a cappella so we get to hear your voice a little bit more clearly?” Cowell told Marina.

“Because I think you have a good voice. It's a good song, but not right for you, the first one.”

The young participant complied and performed an a capella version of Sia’s “Opportunity” However, the judge didn’t like that either.

Cowell raised his hand again to stop Marina from singing.

“Ashley, you want my honest opinion?” he said while the audience booed him.

“I think you brought the wrong songs with you today. It's very difficult for me, I don't know about the others, to actually judge you on that.”

Sofia Vergara convinced Cowell to give Marina another chance. She suggested that they give her time to change the song and come back later. Cowell agreed.

However, several Twitter users did not agree with what they saw during the audition. They called Cowell rude for the way he handled Marina’s audition.

“That was a bit rude of Simon. An audition does not necessarily determine a contestant's full potential or talent. She was great!” Alexander Cain commented.

“OMG! Simon is wrong on this when it comes to Ashley,” Jason Eldridge added.

“I'm getting tired of Simon doing this #AGT,” another wrote.

Meanwhile, several also praised Cowell because for them, he just helped the contestant bring out her best on stage.

“Simon is literally on her side whats wrong with the audience. He's not being mean to her or anything,” Anoushe Shakaib commented on the video on YouTube.

“Simon knew she had something he doesn't give a lot of chances if he doesnt hear it. She has a beautiful voice,” Charlotte Andrew added.

“This is Simon's Job he's paid well because he does his job well,” Sam Goncolo added.

Marina returned to the audition with an original song she wrote for her dad and earned a standing ovation from the judges.

"You now have three well-deserved 'yeses.'" Simon told Ashley at the end.
