KEY POINTS

  • Alec Baldwin amassed a wealth of $70 million throughout his Hollywood career
  • Baldwin's last recorded salary amounted to $300,000 per episode
  • He is currently facing involuntary manslaughter charges over the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins

Alec Baldwin will be facing criminal charges of involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was killed on the set of the western film "Rust" last year.

The 64-year-old Hollywood star fired a prop gun while rehearsing for a scene in the movie, shot at a ranch near Sante Fe, New Mexico. He will be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, CNN reported.

Baldwin has maintained that he was unaware that the gun "contained a live round" and called the New Mexico prosecutor's decision a "terrible miscarriage of justice," according to the actor's defense attorney, Luke Nikas.

But the prosecutors believed that it was the responsibility of the "Pixie" star to ensure that the revolver was safe to use before firing the gun.

"We're trying to definitely make it clear that everybody's equal under the law, including A-list actors like Alec Baldwin," Santa Fe County district's special prosecutor Andrea Reeb told the New York Times. "And we also want to make sure that the safety of the film industry is addressed and things like this don't happen again."

In defense, the veteran actor contested that he was not "responsible" for the incident, explaining that Hutchins was also teaching him where to point the gun and that he did not "pull the trigger" before the gun discharged, the outlet noted.

Baldwin is a famous American actor and film director who starred in the blockbuster films "Beetlejuice," "Working Girl," "State and Main," "The Departed" and many others. He has also been recognized for his undeniable talent, winning several awards, such as a Screen Actors Guild award for his performance on "30 rock."

He has since accumulated enormous wealth in his career and has an estimated net worth of $70 million, with his last recorded salary per episode valued at $300,000, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

The actor graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts before kickstarting his career in Hollywood in the early 1980s.

He first appeared in numerous television series, including the soap opera "The Doctors" from 1980 to 1982, "Cutter To Houston" in 1983," and "Knots Landing" from 1984 to 1985. He also ventured into theater, earning his first role in the Broadway musical "Loot."

Since then, Baldwin transitioned into the world of film. His biggest role was in the 2001 film "Pearl Harbor," which grossed almost $450 million when it hit the theaters. He earned about $250,000 at that time, according to Wall Street Journal.

The filmmaker also appeared on "Saturday Night Live," where he acted as Donald Trump. In an interview with the New York Times in 2016, he revealed that he received $1,400 per appearance.

Baldwin, and his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, whom he married in 2012, also own an impressive number of estates. The couple's primary home is a penthouse at the Devonshire House in Manhattan's Greenwich Village. They reportedly paid a total of $16 million in two years to construct one big property from six separate apartments, Celebrity Net Worth reported.

Early last year, the couple purchased a 55-acre property in Arlington Vermont for $1.75 million. The estate included an antique farmhouse, a guest cottage and two barns.

In September, Baldwin listed his 10,000-square-foot Hamptons property for sale, which he paid for about $1.75 million in 1996. The home was being sold for $29 million, and it featured four bedrooms, an eat-in kitchen, a wine-tasting room, a movie theater and a wood-paneled library.

The estate was listed amid the actor's "potential" legal woes following Hutchins' death, which was still under investigation at the time. It is unclear whether the property was already sold, but its price got reduced to $24.9 million earlier this month.

Baldwin has also been active in doing charity work. He is a well-known philanthropist, donating money to theaters, symphony orchestras, and literacy programs. He also established the Carol M. Baldwin Cancer Research Fund, a program "committed to battling cancer by supporting both new and established researchers," in honor of his mother's bout with the disease.
