Oscar award-winning actress Angelina Jolie has remained relatively mum since news of her divorce from husband Brad Pitt leaked, but her estranged father, actor Jon Voight, gave a reason why Jolie and Pitt split up during an exclusive interview Tuesday with Radar Online.

“I just got the news and I’m concerned,” Voight said. “I don’t know much about it except it must be something serious.”

One of the rumors is that Pitt, 52, consumed too much weed and had an “anger problem” that was dangerous for the couple's six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox. Jolie asked a judge to give Pitt visitation rights, which means she wants full custody of their children.

“The priority is always the children,” Voight said. “I know she’s always concerned about the children.”

Voight, who does not have a relationship with Jolie or his grandchildren, wants the best for his estranged family. “I’m hopeful,” he said. “Say a little prayer. This is news to me, too.”

Pitt and Jolie, 41, issued separate statements. The actress was brief in her response to the divorce. She spoke through her spokesperson to Us Weekly. “Angelina Jolie Pitt has filed for dissolution of the marriage,” the statement said Tuesday. “This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time.”

Pitt told People Magazine his children were his top concern. “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids,” he said in the statement. “I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”

Jolie and Pitt married in August 2014 after a two-year engagement.
