After months of endless speculation, Oscar award-winning actress Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt Monday, TMZ wrote in an exclusive report Tuesday. The “Girl, Interrupted” star cited irreconcilable differences a day before the bombshell story broke. She is being represented by celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser.

If Wasser’s name sounds familiar, that’s because she’s often written about in celebrity news. She has represented clients including Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, Johnny Depp, Ashton Kutcher, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Reynolds and Heidi Klum.

Wasser tries to keep divorces a “business transaction,” she told E! Online in October 2013. “[I tell clients] let's do this in a way that we can keep your sanity and your bank accounts intact,” she said. “There's no reason to turn this into some kind of a melodrama—particularly if you're a famous person, because we know it's all going to get played out through the media.”

It’s unclear how long the divorce will take to finish, but it’s usually not a short process. “It takes a while because you have to compile information and exchange it, and then you have to make a deal,” Wasser said. “I will say, when things take a long time, often it's because one party or another is not really ready to cut the cord.”

In Jolie and Pitt’s case, there are six children to worry about: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox. Jolie reportedly requested the judge give Pitt visitation. That means she does not want her estranged husband to have joint custody of their children.

Jolie said the their date of separation was Sept. 15, 2016.

The A-list actress is not asking for spousal support. Gossip Cop, the website that famously debunks celebrity rumors, confirmed the divorce filing. A reason for the split has not yet been given, but Gossip Cop noted people should not be quick to believe tabloids like In Touch Weekly, which have continuously reported about the couple divorcing for months.

It’s the same “regurgitated guesses such magazines have been printing since the couple wed,” Gossip Cop wrote Tuesday. “In fact, breakup tales have wrongly circulated in the tabloids for the last 10 years.”

Jolie and Pitt married in August 2014. They first started dating in 2004.

It’s been widely rumored that Pitt cheated on then-wife Jennifer Aniston with Jolie when they filmed “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.”

Wasser has not issued a comment about Jolie’s divorce from Pitt.
