Police are investigating a disturbance at a restaurant after a woman threw spicy soup at an employee’s face in Texas.

A rude restaurant patron, who has not been identified, called Sol De Jalisco restaurant in Temple on Nov. 7 to complain about a soup order she picked up. The woman complained that the soup she ordered was so hot that it melted the plastic lid of the container, police said.

During the initial call, the woman uttered insults at the restaurant employee. Restaurant manager Jannelle Browland said she hung up the call. Afterward, the woman called the restaurant a second time. The customer was then put on hold while Browland helped other restaurant-goers.

The upset caller then walked into the restaurant and continued to verbally attack Browland.

"So I put my phone away and I said, 'Ma'am, I can still help you,'" Browland said, KXAN reported. "Those were my exact words. I said, 'Ma'am, I can still help you.' I just ask you, you do not talk to me that way. She literally just grabbed the cup and just threw it right at me in that moment," she said.

Surveillance footage at the restaurant showed the woman with the soup container and another person approaching the counter where Browland was standing. After exchanging a few words, the argument soon escalated, with the woman throwing the spicy soup in Browland’s face.

Browland said the soup was not as hot as when it is served but it was still warm.

"The spices from it are what hit me the most," Browland told KCEN. "I remember feeling the warmth of the soup, but my eyes burned so bad. My nose was burning. It kind of took my breath away for a second because just the burning. I was really in shock from it all," she added.

Later, in a TikTok video, Browland said she offered to give the customer a refund, according to KIRO-TV. The woman refused Browland's suggestion and continued to argue with her.

The soup was an order of menudo, a spicy Mexican soup. The spices in the soup burned Browland’s eyes and gave her two separate nose bleeds.

The assailant has been banned from the restaurant. Police said charges against the woman are pending.
