The Codys seem to finally be on solid ground after a messy heist and an unexpected murder, however, just when they think they may be in the clear, on “Animal Kingdom” Season 2, episode 8, old sins and the desire to prove oneself threatens to bring them all down.

“As cops press Amy (Jennifer Landon) about the church robbery, Pope (Shawn Hatosy) diverts their suspicions,” the synopsis for “Grace” teases. Since the church heist, Pope has felt guilt for causing trouble for Amy who has a criminal past and has become the focus of the police investigation.

In the promo for “Animal Kingdom” Season 2, episode 8, an officer can be seen talking to someone while standing in a modestly tidy home. Although Craig (Ben Ronson) is still looking for a permanent home, his last apartment was pretty messy so there’s a chance that the officer isn’t questioning him.

However, Baz’s (Scott Speedman) house is typically in order which could mean that Pope could have done something to make the police suspicious of him. In the promo for the TNT series, Pope can be seen breaking into a car as the officer speaks to someone off-camera.

“We’re going to check your vehicle then we’re going to talk about your brothers,” the officer can be heard saying. Although she could be talking to one of the Cody brothers, it is possible that Pope set someone else up so the police would back off of Amy.

“Craig plans an unusual heist of his own,” the synopsis for “Grace” says. Craig has been doing his best to prove to his brothers that although he is independent, they will always need his help to pull a job.

“It’s like I don’t know you anymore,” Nicky (Molly Gordon) can be heard saying to someone. Could she be talking about Craig? The two haven’t been on the best of terms and Nicky has been spending a lot of time with J (Finn Cole), slowly realizing that he may be the better guy for her. Has Craig’s desire to prove he is needed caused him to come up with a crazy plan?

“Baz tails Smurf (Ellen Barkin) to find out what she’s really hiding,” the synopsis for the TNT series states. In the promo, Baz can be heard explaining that he believes Smurf has been stealing from the family.

“I think Smurf has been skimming off our jobs, I’m going to find out,” he says. In a previous episode, it was revealed that Smurf has a storage unit that none of the boys know about with the exception of J who once accompanied her there during a visit.

In the unit, there is a safe filled with money and jewelry even though Smurf claims she has no more money left since she was robbed while trying to delivering money to Javi (Alex Meraz). Although it is uncertain whether the boys find out about the safe, it’s clear that Smurf isn’t as down on her luck as she pretends to be.

Baz also looks further into what could have happened to Catherine (Daniella Alonso) and seems to bring his concerns to Pope. “You think Smurf killed her?” Pope asks Baz in the promo.

It was also brought to Baz’s attention that the police are looking for Catherine, however, in “Grace” an officer will tell him that she was a police informant which would give Smurf motive to want Catherine dead.
