After almost getting one of her sons killed, Smurf is scrambling to make things right with the Cody boys again. On “Animal Kingdom” Season 3, episode 12, Smurf will realize that her money may not be enough to put her back in control of her family.

“The Cody family picks up the pieces from their showdown with Lucy (Carolina Guerra),” the synopsis for “Homecoming” teases. In the previous episode of the TNT series, Smurf (Ellen Barkin) kidnapped Lucy’s brother, Marco (Joseph Julian Soria), in order to force her into returning the $7 million she stole.

Smurf’s plan went south when Marco shot at the Cody family during the trade, and Craig (Ben Robson) fired back and killed him. In the middle of the shootout, Lucy managed to escape with her dying brother and kidnapped Pope (Shawn Hatosy).

Although she initially planned to kill Pope following Marco’s death, Lucy was able to make him realize Smurf was responsible for Baz’s (Scott Speedman) death and decided to leave Pope alive to deal with his mother.

Now that Smurf has her boys and her money back, she believes things can go back to normal, but did her war with Lucy spark the beginning of the end for the tight-knit Cody family?

“Smurf is determined to reel Pope back into the fold at any cost,” the synopsis for “Animal Kingdom” Season 3, episode 12 says. In the “Homecoming” promo video, Pope holds on to a drug vial and double checks to make sure that the woman receiving it won’t be in pain because he doesn’t want her to suffer.

Although Smurf is eager to put her family back together, she may want to watch her back now that Pope knows she killed his brother and is the reason why Lena (Aamya Deva Keroles) is an orphan.

Smurf has had Pope under her control for all of his life, but has she finally lost her power over the most dangerous member of her family?

“Meanwhile, J (Finn Cole) goes to extreme lengths to protect a secret,” the synopsis for the TNT drama states. In the previous episode, J looked into buying real estate as a way to clean the family’s money and set up a backup plan since he realized that Smurf sees him as expendable.

In the promo video, J tells Mia (Sohvi Rodriguez) he needs someone outside of the family he can trust. However, J is unaware that Mia has some secrets of her own. Even though Smurf is the one who ordered the hit on Baz, viewers know that Mia is the one who pulled the trigger and actually murdered him.

Can J trust Mia to keep his secret or does she have ulterior motives when it comes to helping the teen stay one step ahead of his scheming grandmother?

Animal Kingdom” Season 3, episode 12 airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. EDT on TNT.
