Anne Hathaway and fiancé Adam Shulman had their engagement party on Saturday, and chose an unikely venue for the fête.

The Housing Works Bookstore Café, located in New York City's SoHo neighborhood on 126 Crosby Street, served as the party space for what was strictly a family affair, per a People magazine report.

Some of the family was meeting each other for the first time, a source told the magazine. It was so very important for them to just have an amazing time introducing their families and making sure that everyone they knew and loved was on board.

Hathaway, a New York City native, could not have looked happier.

Anne had a smile on her face all night long, the source told People. With every friend and family member that approached her, that smile just got brighter.

Hathaway and Shulman have been dating since 2008.

She had broken up with former flame, Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri in June of that year. He was arrested in a financial scandal that involved scamming the Catholic Church and was charged with fraud and money laundering, per a New York Daily News report, and sentenced to more than four years in prison. He is scheduled for release on May 25, per the Web site for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Hathaway will be in two major movies this year. She plays the role of Selina Kyle and Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, which hits theaters on July 20. She will play the character of Fantine in the musical film adaptation of Les Misérables, scheduled for release in December.
