  • "F9" is scheduled to release in theaters on May 22, 2020

Actor Vin Diesel offered fans of the “Fast & Furious” franchise a first glimpse of the ninth film on Tuesday with the first poster and short teaser of the upcoming trailer.

Diesel took to Twitter: “We’re getting closer…”

The tweet included the film’s first poster, with his character Dominic Toretto front and center. It also features the crucifix necklace that has played an important role in Toretto’s relationship with Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty.

It also reveals the title of the film will simply be “F9.”

He then shifted over to Facebook to post a short teaser of the film’s first trailer, which will be released Friday.

It shows Toretto living an uncharacteristically quiet family life along with Letty and an older Brian, his son from his relationship with Elena Neves. Toretto talks about how he can’t live his life “a quarter mile at a time” anymore, but also enjoying his life as a family man. However, it ends on a foreboding note as Letty gives Brian the crucifix and tells him it will protect him from a mysterious enemy coming for the family.

“F9” will reunite Diesel and Rodriguez with Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Natalie Emmanuel, Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron. Michael Rooker and John Cena will also be joining the franchise, though it hasn’t been revealed if they will join or challenge Toretto’s “family.”

Jason Statham and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will not be returning after getting their own spinoff film, “Hobbs & Shaw,” in 2019. There have been rumors that there will be a sequel.

“F9” is set for release on May 22, 2020.
